I was in your shoes, diagnosed with an autoimmune condition

I am Ines Harrison, DIPNT

Certified Nutritionist, Diploma in Nutritional Therapy, The College of Naturopathic Medicine

I believe health should be empowering

After being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, I was determined not to rely on medication. Through diet and lifestyle, I healed my body and my mind. I regained control of my condition, and I became a practitioner to help empower women struggling with pain or flare ups to regain control over their health and live a better quality life.

I strongly believe in the immune system's ability to heal and recover. Working together, my intention is to help you to heal yours. Getting to grips with nutrients, macronutrients, vitamins and minerals can be confusing, but I am here to empower you with the right information for you to make strategic lifestyle changes, giving you your power back over your health.

I know autoimmune conditions

I know first hand what it is like to live with an autoimmune condition. I had just begun my professional career in Investment Management in Edinburgh and had been pushing myself hard to deliver and achieve. It took its toll on my body: I was becoming exhausted, chronically in pain, my skin became itchy and flaky. After months of investigations, I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition called Dermatomyositis, an inflammation of the skin and the muscles.

I understand the doubts, the fears and the anxieties that come with getting an autoimmune condition diagnosis. But I also know that they do not have to define you or limit you. I went from loss, grief and immense suffering to where I am today - enjoying skiing, sailing, walking, and stand-up paddle boarding with my family - and of course playing with our Cockapoo puppy! I want to enjoy life to the fullest - even with an autoimmune disease - and I want to support you to enjoy a better quality of life too. What once felt like a life sentence now gives me honour to draw on my experience, empathy and understanding of autoimmune disease, guiding my practice as an autoimmune nutritionist.

I treat the person as a whole, not the condition

What works for one person might not work for another - there is no one-size-fits-all. We are each so different, which means that a condition can present differently too. That's why I focus on the unique needs of each person - your nutritional needs and your lifestyle needs. The solution has to be something that will work for you.

As part of my Diploma in Nutritional Therapy, I studied Biomedicine, focusing on human health, life stages and disease progressions as well as the health impact of diet, lifestyle and environmental factors. As a practitioner, when carrying out an assessment and building a treatment plan, I take into account all aspects of your anatomy and physiology, existing conditions, diet and lifestyle in order to give the best possible treatment plan, tailored to you.

I believe trust, honesty and integrity are paramount health and wellbeing

There is a lot of information out there, and it can be confusing, contradictory, and sometimes even incorrect. What is considered 'healthy' for one person might be harmful to another. As a nutritionist, I help you navigate this complex and nebulous topic. I provide expert advice and recommendations to empower you to make changes in your diet and lifestyle to optimise your health and wellbeing. And you can trust me to give you my real, professional opinion that I know will help you - not just the answers that are popular or that you want to hear. Integrity and honesty are my highest values.
